Shameless

That's her new nickname around the house. The only thing more important than food are belly rubs. Anytime I walk within 3 feet of her when she's laying down, she flops on her side and throws her rear leg in the air, wantonly exposing herself. It's hard to ignore, I must admit. So I usually succumb, kneel down and the moment I do so, she's in a full out roach with those eyes full of excited hope that bliss is about to happen.

More Snapshots of Jo

Snapshots of Jo

Week One Has Ended

Well Jo has been here one full week although you'd think it was forever the way she has adapted. She does like to be near her people still and will move from room to room and plop down nearby. We had our first visitor yesterday and she wasn't too thrilled with a newcomer...apprehensively stood behind me the whole time however at least she didn't run and hide like a previous greyhound we had. (Heck WE didn't even see that one for the first two weeks!)

Jo got her first squeaky toy to play with yesterday. She wasn't too interested when it wasn't squeaking so we had a little 'how to' lesson. It became much more fun then! She was quite possessive of it if the other dogs came into her space but I had no problems in taking it away from her or touching her when she had it.

As a matter of fact, I've found Jo to be the typical greyhound when it comes to handling them...docile and willing to put up with all sorts of poking and prodding. She has also figured out belly rubs are a great and wonderous thing! And who can resist those big round 'mascara' eyes?

Finally A Playmate...Sort Of

Shortly after breakfast this morning, Jo and the red dog had a brief play session. Once again it was in the living room and cut short by the grumpy senior who barked and snarked until the girls decided they'd better calm down.

Rain Rain Go Away

Jo doesn't care for being outside in the rain...it makes her potty trips pretty quick though! We had some distant thunder rumbles which didn't phase her at all, unlike another member of the household that hides behind the toilet.

This sweet girl is starting to show her playful side. She slammed the floor with her front legs three times in a vain attempt to get the grumpy senior up...no luck. Not to be deterred, shortly thereafter she started out by barking at the red dog followed by more floor slamming with those front legs. For such a dainty girl, she sure can get your attention! The red dog was encouraged to play a little bit although she was a bit intimidated by Jo's exuberance. Oh if it had only NOT been raining so we could have gone outside....

First Few Days In A Home

Jo arrived at her foster home on Saturday evening (June 18th). It was raining and I'm sure she was tired from the two hour car ride (I know I was). She met the four other dogs of the house, one at a time of course, with polite sniffing. After a brief introduction to the four porch stairs, she got a tour of her new foster home. Jo checked out EVERYTHING with caution. The ceiling fans were a bit scary at first however, although she still gives them the evil eye, she no longer seems to be very inclined to move away from them. Actually, she is settling in like the typical greyhound...seeking out the softest bed on the living room floor! This evening she attempted her first roach since she's been here although it was short-lived due to accidentally touching my grumpy senior boy's toenail when she flipped. I'm sure she will be doing it again in no time though!

She crates very well and is quite food motivated. Fortunately she is able to have quite a bit of supervised time out of her crate here and she just lays around and observes. Unless we move toward the kitchen...it took her no time to figure out where the chow comes from!

She walks/potties on the leash in the yard with no problems. When she's off leash, she still likes to have someone close by. Especially if the neighborhood kids are out playing because they are very loud and scary! She's very sweet and is enjoying being petted and we see more tail wags every day! She doesn't really enjoy wearing her muzzle...has even managed to get it off once. She's hoping someone will want to meet her soon so she can quit wearing it!

Loving Jo

Jo is such a sweet little thing. Every time I walk by her run she looks at me with these eyes that melt right through me. She is so trusting although she did not come to us in great shape. She is great on a leash. When I stop, she stops.

She seems to love other greyhounds/dogs too. We had the boys in the dog run last night and she kept walking by them and wanting to see what they were up to. She deserves a greyt life and I know she will make a perfect addition to any family.
